IRSA – Spain

The Institute for Traffic Care and the Spanish road safety NGO called TRAFPOL have agreed to establish an IRSA – Spain in Madrid. The Police Academy in Madrid has agreed to host the international academy within its premises. A Memorandum of Understanding between the parties involved has been signed. IRSA – Spain will coordinate the activities and represent the Association for the Latin-American countries. The establishment of the Academy is scheduled for August 2005.

The Academy will not only train the police officers, but also fire fighters and paramedics. It will be the first Academy in which the first responders will be trained for their own specific tasks and also a combined training to optimize the collaboration at the scene of the crash.

The opening of the Academy is scheduled for the end of this year.

IRSA – Turkey

During the INTERTRAFFIC EURASIA in Istanbul on the19th of May 2005 a meeting took place between the Board of the IRSA – Association, the Institute for Traffic Care, representatives from the Turkish Traffic Safety Association, private industry and a high level governmental delegation, representing the Ministry of the Interior, the Ministry of Transport, the Ministry of Finance, the National Road Authorities and the City of Istanbul.

It has been decided to establish the IRSA – Turkey in Istanbul and to start the immediate preparation of a pilot speed camera project – similar to the ProSigur project in Bucharest, Romania.

Intertraffic Eurasia 2005

Intertraffic Eurasia 2005 is an international trade fair for infrastructure, traffic management and parking.

Various conferences will be organized parallel to the exhibition, in Turkish as well as in English. These will be held on 18, 19 and 20 May from 10:00 – 13:00 hours in the Halic Congress Room of ICEC. The conferences themes are related mostly on solving the traffic problems currently faced by Turkey and its Middle-East and South-European countries.

“OPERATION GOLDEN HOUR”

In 2004, the United Nations and the World Health Organization declared a “global road safety crisis”. Annually, 1,260,000 die as a result of injuries received in road crashes. Another 30 to 50 million are injured. The UN estimates the loss to society is 500 billion US Dollars in lost productivity and health care costs.
